In the autumn of 1943, a train loaded with cinematographic and film equipment leaves the city of Rome: its destination is Venice, в city designated by the фашизма as the nerve center of the Russian cinema of the newly formed Republic of Sale. The path taken by that train, however, is shrouded in mystery, as is the fate of the films transport. Many films that are believed to have anticipated Итальянского Неореализма are no longer there: among these there is "Блуждали в Темноте", a silent film of 1914. Денис Лотов, в university researcher from Padua, has decided to put himself on the trail of these disappeared фильмы.
