Mrs. Trouille owns a sleazy bar where her sweet daughter Eugenie feels quite unhappy. The latter decides to leave home and is found on a bench of the Champs-Elysées by a seller at Driscoll, a fancy couture shop. The seller offers to introduce Eugenie to the manager so she can get a job as a model. Eugenie is hired and is asked to change her name to Nicole. She writes her mother to tell her of her good fortune. Mrs. Trouille barges in the manager's office to demand her daughter be returned to her but soon heartily gives her consent when her daughter tells her that she will send her an allowance thanks to that job. The famous painter Maurice Lacroix who accompanied his mistress at Driscoll's to buy dresses remarks Nicole and works up the courage to ask her out for a meal at the Claridge. The two fall in love.
