A company of soldiers commanded by Captain don Álvaro de Ataide заблудиться, волонтеры службы in the Extremaduran town of Zalamea de la Serena (Бадахос, Испания) on the way to Португалии. The captain stays in the house of a rich фермер, Педро Креспо, whose daughter Isabel is raped by Дон Альваро.
